Faith, Politics, and the Media: Why I Stand Firm as a Christian Conservative

For many Christians, navigating the intersection of faith and politics can feel like walking through a cultural minefield. I am often asked how someone can deeply love Christ and still support the Republican Party or Donald Trump. The answer lies in looking past the media narrative, understanding the reality of political bias, and aligning with policies that protect foundational biblical values. No political candidate is a savior; we already have one of those, and His name is Jesus.

The Reality of Media Bias and the Standard for Conservatives

To understand the political landscape, we must first acknowledge the profound bias inherent in mainstream media. This is not a new phenomenon, nor is it unique to Donald Trump. To find the root of this bias, you only have to look at where the media comes from. Virtually every mainstream reporter and editor is a college graduate, having spent their formative years in an academic system where college professors overwhelmingly identify as liberal. When an entire profession is trained within an ideological echo chamber, it naturally shapes their worldview. As a result, they don't just report the news; they filter it through a specific progressive lens. For decades, any conservative leader who threatens the progressive status quo is systematically vilified.

  • A History of Opposition: We saw it with Ronald Reagan, who was routinely painted as a dangerous warmonger. We saw it with George W. Bush, who faced unrelenting personal hostility. Even moderate figures like John McCain, Mitt Romney, and Sarah Palin—who were praised by the media right up until they ran for higher office—were instantly transformed into villains the moment they challenged the Democratic ticket.

  • A Stark Contrast: Compare this to the media’s treatment of modern Democratic leaders. Figures like Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden have consistently enjoyed a protective media shield, where scandals are downplayed, gaffes are excused, and their policy failures are rarely held to the same standard of scrutiny.

  • The Weaponization of the "Hate Group" Label

The mainstream media frequently relies on corporate-funded gatekeepers to silence traditional, faith-based advocacy. Chief among these is the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which the media routinely cites as an objective authority on extremism. In reality, the SPLC has been thoroughly exposed as a corrupt entity that weaponizes its "hate map" to vilify mainstream Christian ministries, parental rights groups, and conservative think tanks that hold biblical views on marriage, life, and biological sex.

The organization's moral authority has completely unraveled. The Department of Justice exposed a massive deception: between 2014 and 2023, the SPLC secretly funneled more than $3 million in donor funds through shell companies directly into the pockets of high-level leaders of violent extremist groups, including the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi organizations. Federal prosecutors revealed that these funds were used to stoke racial hatred and facilitate the commission of state and federal crimes. By covertly funding the very extremism it publicly denounced, the SPLC manufactured crises to deceive donors and drive fundraising. It operates less as a civil rights watchdog and more as a highly profitable, corrupt political machine used by the media to enforce cultural orthodoxy.

The Unprecedented Targeting of Donald Trump

While every Republican faces an uphill battle, the treatment of Donald Trump has been entirely unprecedented. The relentless effort to remove or neutralize him suggests a deeper fear of his disruption to the political establishment.

  • The Weaponization of the Legal System: From endless investigations to unprecedented "lawfare," President Trump has faced a barrage of legal maneuvers designed to drain his resources and damage his electability. Driven by clear political agendas, the prosecutors behind these cases have faced widespread criticism for weaponizing their offices, suggesting a level of systemic corruption aimed entirely at neutralizing a political opponent.

Far from being independent local matters, these prosecutions bear the distinct fingerprints of political coordination. Mainstream reports have largely ignored public records showing that key county prosecutors met with the Biden White House counsel's office while building their cases. Even more telling is the unprecedented migration of federal legal talent; high-ranking Department of Justice officials voluntarily took massive pay cuts and left secure federal posts specifically to join local district attorneys' offices to spearhead the charges against Trump. These details aren't partisan speculation or talking points restricted to conservative media outlets like Fox News. They are verifiable facts backed by public records and official visitor logs—available to anyone willing to look beneath the surface of the mainstream narrative. When the system itself is compromised by ethical scandals and apparent top-down coordination, it ceases to be about justice and becomes entirely about politics. Yet, despite being the most scrutinized public figure in modern history, Trump continues to stand. A common-sense look at the situation suggests that if there were a fraction of the corruption his critics claim, he would have been completely dismantled long ago.

  • The Second Impeachment: Nothing highlights this political theater more than his second impeachment. Rushed through as he was literally packing his bags to leave office, it was less about constitutional duty and more about a partisan attempt to delegitimize his legacy and prevent him from running again.

  • The Narrative on January 6th: While any escalation at a protest is regrettable, the events of January 6th have been vastly exaggerated to serve a political narrative. Over the years, our country has witnessed massive, destructive protests targeting government buildings, courts, and communities that were excused or even praised by the media. Yet, because January 6th involved Trump supporters, it was weaponized to broad-brush millions of peaceful, patriotic Americans.

Aligning Policy with Christian Ethics

Ultimately, my political support is not a declaration that any candidate is a perfect moral vessel—King David and the Apostle Paul were deeply flawed men used by God. Instead, it is a choice about which platform aligns closest with biblical truth. The modern Democratic platform actively promotes ideologies that run completely counter to Christian ethics.

  • The Sanctity of Life: Scripture teaches that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the womb. The defense of the unborn is a non-negotiable aspect of the Christian worldview, whereas the opposition consistently pushes for unrestricted abortion access. The tragic fruit of these policies is clear in the numbers: in places like New York City, government health data reveals that nearly half of all pregnancies among Black women end in abortion, rather than a live birth. Furthermore, data from the Guttmacher Institute (the research organization originally founded as an arm of Planned Parenthood) reveals that nearly half of all women who obtain an abortion have already had at least one prior abortion. This reality challenges the narrative that abortion is merely a rare, emergency fallback, pointing instead to a culture that increasingly treats the procedure as a routine method of retroactive birth control. This isn't just a political disagreement; it is a moral crisis that disproportionately affects the most vulnerable among us.

  • Marriage and Identity: The biblical definitions of marriage, family, and biological gender are foundational to human flourishing. The promotion of trans ideology and the redefining of traditional marriage directly challenge God’s design for creation.

  • The Suppression of Conservative Voices: Organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) have weaponized their platforms to label traditional Christian ministries and conservative policy groups as "hate groups," effectively trying to criminalize orthodox Christian beliefs in the public square.

Conclusion: The Reality of the Choice Before Us

In many ways, the choice before traditional Christians in the voting booth reflects the very struggle we are facing within our own denomination. It takes immense spiritual courage to stand up and lead a congregation away from the United Methodist Church over its departure from biblical orthodoxy. We do so because we cannot subsidize or belong to an institution that compromises on God's truth. For many believers, the political choice is viewed through that exact same lens. Choosing to oppose the modern Democratic platform isn't about worshiping a political party; it is a recognition that, much like our fracturing denomination, the platform itself has institutionalized a worldview that directly wars against scriptural ethics. In both faith and politics, our departure from the status quo is driven by the same singular desire: to remain uncompromised and true to the Word of God.

When evaluating the broader political landscape, we must operate with clear-eyed realism. We live in a rigid two-party system, which forces a binary choice. It is no secret that the Republican Party is far from perfect; it is comprised of flawed individuals and frequently falls short of the ideals it espouses. As Christians, our ultimate allegiance is never to a political party, but to the Kingdom of God.

However, a mature faith requires us to look past political rhetoric and judge a platform by its fruit. While one side is flawed, the other side has institutionalized a platform that directly wars against foundational biblical truths. The modern Democratic platform's aggressive promotion of unrestricted abortion, the redefinition of marriage, and the enforcement of radical transgender ideology on children and families represents a systemic rejection of God’s design for life, family, and reality itself.

When a political party elevates the destruction of the unborn and the dismantling of God’s created order into core tenets of its identity, it ceases to be a viable option for a believer. We are not looking for a political savior on the ballot, but we cannot vote to subsidize moral ruin. In a two-party system, the choice is not between two perfect options; it is a choice between a flawed political party and a platform whose core values completely deem it an impossibility for anyone walking in biblical truth.

A Practical Blessing We Discovered (And How It Works)

When I felt the Lord calling me to get my finances in order, I came across a company called SoFi. They are a fully digital, FDIC-insured bank, which means your money is completely safe and regulated just like any local bank. Because they don't have physical branches, they pay a higher interest rate on your deposits, which has been great for our savings.

Instead of spending millions of dollars on television commercials or billboard ads to find new customers, SoFi prefers to rely on word-of-mouth. They pass those advertising dollars directly to regular people like us through their referral program.

Here is exactly how it works, completely transparent:

  • Step 1: If you open a new SoFi savings account using our link below and deposit at least $50, SoFi will give you an instant $25 bonus just for signing up. Full disclosure: because you used our link, they also pay us a $100 referral bonus, which is a massive help to us. Please be sure to use one of the links below when signing up, or neither of us will receive the bonus!

  • Step 2: Once your account is open and you've made your deposit, you get your own referral link.

  • Step 3: You can then log in, grab your link, and refer your spouse, an adult child or a friend. When they open their account and deposit $50, you will earn a $100 referral bonus, and they will get a $25 bonus.

  • Bonus Perk: If you manage to get 3 referrals between now and August, SoFi will throw in an extra $100 for you! One other note. This is for new SoFi customers only.

Jeanette and I did this exact same thing. It is a completely legitimate, safe way to bless your own household budget with an extra $100 (or more) while helping to support the cost of our website. Please use this link to support us:
